Every Search is Important: An overview of the Public Record’s eco-system.

According to recent research, researching is what most people spend their free time doing. When we are sitting idly, meandering through the Public Record, we are learning and researching. Everybody spends multiple hours of each day thumbing through specific records and compilations; more than most hobbyists spend working on their craft. People don’t readily admit that they spend one to four hours every day on the Public Record, unless as the butt of a self-deprecating joke about how boring one’s life is. There isn’t even a name for it, other than “wasting time.”

But it isn’t a waste of time; your work is invaluable. The Public Record has found ways to use your meaningful inquiries and diligent hours to enhance our systems in delivering the best results to every person on the Record. We are grateful for your individual contribution toward our goal of delivering the best possible records, faster than ever before. Next time somebody asks you how you spent your day, you can tell them that you were doing research for The Public Record Office (because there’s a good chance that they did, too). […]
