Excerpt from novel: with Abandon

listfully listening

we compare our makeups
to each others’ and make up similarlies
and tell one another that those make us
the best match out of any two others,
just like everybody does,
all the while marveling that
the odds of our meeting at all
were so close to zero that they
may as well have been zero,
and that whatever Noun was involved in
exploding everything into a new, different everything,
and whatever Noun manages to keep that all from exploding again
and determines which humans meet and make which humans,
whatever name you give that Noun
must have spent all of its effort
just to getting the two of us to meet;
that’s how compatible our compounds are,
that we must be all that this was made for
and everyone else should be so lucky
to have led up to us,
and that whatever happens after us
is of as little importance
as everything that came before us.
