Excerpt from novel: with Abandon

we two are drifting

in a patched up life-raft
floating hopefully,
laughing forgetfully, asking
what was land like again?
& then forgetting ourselves with laughing.
we are scared together of loneliness.
we take turns blowing air into the raft
until we are out of breath.
we stay afloat with our lungs,
constantly wondering if we’ll be able to fill it up
faster than it’s leaking.
